ไม้พุ่มขนาดเล็ก สูงได้ถึง ๑.๕ ม ลำต้นกลม ผิวเกลี้ยง ใบเดี่ยว เรียงตรงข้าม รูปรีกว้าง ขอบใบหยัก มีนํ้ามันภายใน ดอกออกเป็นช่อ ที่ปลายยอด มีดอกย่อยสีขาวขนาดเล็ก ผลรูปไข่กลับ สีเขียว ผลสุกสีขาว ออกดอกช่วงเดือนเมษายน – สิงหาคม ขยายพันธุ์โดยการปักชำต้น ได้ง่าย

Characteristics :

Chloranthus elatior is a small shrub up to 1.5 m tall. Stem terete, glabrous. Leaves are simple, opposite, broadly elliptic, margin serrate and its contain an essential oil. Inflorescences in terminal spikes with small white flowers. Fruits obovoid, green when young, white at maturity. Flowering in April – August. This plant is commonly grown from stem cutting.

ทุกส่วนของพืชนำมาผลิตเป็นชา ใช้เป็นสีย้อมให้สีนํ้าเงินดำ หรือสีดำ ใบอ่อนใช้รับประทานสดเป็นผักเคียง

Uses and Utilization :

All parts of the plant can be used to make a tea. It can also be used as a dye plant, producing dark blue or black colors. Young leaves are eaten raw as a vegetable.
